ESBI Computing help Galway County Council go Mobile!
September 2002
ESBI Computing has just completed the implementation of their GeoMobile application for Galway County Council.
As businesses today look to ways of improving productivity and efficiency, more and more organisations are looking to introduce the concept of the mobile worker. Staff often need information where they are and organisations need to be able to receive, view and analyse data wherever critical decisions are made - in both the field and the office.
ESBI Computing has extensive skills and experience in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technologies and have developed GeoMobile - an innovative, fast and effective mobile GIS system, which enables users to capture and verify spatially related data directly in the field.
Galway County Council approached ESBI Computing with a requirement for a mobile mapping solution which would enable their surveyors in the field to quickly and efficiently determine all commercial premises for the purpose of water metering. The GeoBusiness team set about customising GeoMobile to specifically meet the requirements of Galway County Council. GeoMobile is a powerful mapping application that enables users to take their mapping applications 'off the desktop' and into the field on hand held devices.
"This has been the first project using GeoMobile technology completed by ESBI Computing. This is a new opportunity for us and we see it as an area with huge growth potential as more and more organisations are looking to take advantage of the benefits offered by mobile applications. We are particularly excited about the benefits of offering GeoMobile with GPS (Global Positioning Systems), which will allow for real-time location in the field, making it easy for a user to position themselves and objects accurately."
Margaret Forrest, Project Manager of GeoMobile, goes on to say,
"The GIS team in Galway County Council who co-ordinated the project on behalf of the Water Services division is truly excited by the technology and is looking to apply it in other areas of the business, where knowledge of location is a key issue, reaping the benefits of improved efficiency of field staff"
This project for Galway County Council is a clear illustration of the way in which the industry in general is moving. Wireless and mobile technology is having a significant impact on how people will conduct business in the near future due to the huge benefits it offers.
ESBI Computing will continue to work closely with Galway County Council to further develop the system and provide additional enhancements as required. The GeoBusiness team are embarking on a sales and marketing campaign to bring the benefits of their solutions to a wider audience.
ESBI Computing has a proven track record in being proactive as technology and customer demands change. They are confident that they will continue to provide clients with the most advanced, effective and efficient solutions, based on leading edge technology.
