ESB provide enhanced Billing & Consumption information to their Customers

June 2003

As part of their on-going CRM initiatives, ESB Customer Supply last September launched "EnergyExtra" an internet-based Billing and Energy Management Information System. One of the key drivers of ESB Customer Supply strategy is to position ESB as an energy marketing company, which provides a range of services that add value for their customers. Market research conducted into the service requirements of customers indicated a high degree of interest in receiving billing and energy management information services on a regular basis over the Internet.

It is within this context that ESB Customer Supply contracted ESBI Computing to develop an Internet- based service that would provide Cost and Consumption and Energy Management information. Initially, the service is available to ESB Customers on the Maximum Demand tariff only. It is planned that all business customers will eventually have access to EnergyExtra across the full range of business tariffs.

ESB Customer Supply have had very positive feedback from business customers using the system. To date over 300 business customers have chosen the service to access information on over 1,600 accounts, making it immediately the largest energy-related Extranet in Ireland.

Brian Convery, Regional Maintenance Manager, Tesco Ireland says:

"I have found the EnergyExtra website invaluable for obtaining consumption and cost histories for our business. All the necessary information required is available for each individual site at the click of a mouse button"

ESB Customer Supply, in choosing ESBI Computing as their partner for this project were particularly aware of their track record in providing sophisticated Web solutions to enable customers access existing legacy systems and data. ESBI Computing hosts the system and provides on-going technical support.

All the data used and displayed in EnergyExtra is protected using industry standard 128-bit encryption - the highest standard of encryption currently available. Access to the site is via the Energy in Business page of the ESB website at www.esb.ie/business. Users must have completed a registration form and subsequently been issued with a User ID and Password to gain access to the secure pages where the data is displayed. Once a Customer has successfully accessed EnergyExtra, summary details of the account(s) for which they have registered are displayed on screen.
