How fast does the wind blow?

November 2003

ESBI Computing has just completed a Web-based GIS solution for Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) which facilitates the display of Wind Speed Data for the Republic of Ireland over the Internet.

SEI had recently commissioned a complete Wind Speed Survey for the Republic of Ireland and had identified a requirement to publish this information via the Internet. This was required in order to facilitate prospective Wind Farm Companies and interested landowners accessing this information in an intuitive and user-friendly manner. SEI contracted ESBI Computing to deliver a Web based GIS solution to display this Wind Speed Data over the Internet.

The solution delivered by ESBI Computing included the Wind Speed contour mapping, Ordnance Survey Ireland background mapping and colour Orthophotos for the Republic of Ireland, and was based on MapInfo's web development environment - MapXtreme.

ESBI Computing has much experience in the web mapping environment and has developed its own off-the-shelf application for delivering Web solutions called GeoXplorer™. The company has implemented Web mapping solutions for a number of organisations internationally including Forfás, ESB International, ESB Telecoms, BAA, Taylor Nelson Sofres and Cardiff City Council.
