Active Places Web-site goes live!

April 2007

The Active Places (http://www.activeplacesni.net) web-site for Sport Northern Ireland went live on the 25th of April 07. There has been a very positive response to this web-site and the Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland are going to use this project as a Case Study.

Background
Sport Northern Ireland wishes to make information held on its Facilities Database available to the general public and other interested parties, through the 'Active Places NI' website.

'Active Places NI' will provide the public with information on sports facilities anywhere in Northern Ireland 'Active Places NI' will provide Sport Northern Ireland staff with up-to-date information on current sports facility provision in Northern Ireland and will be a tool to assist in the assessment of future applications to the Sport Northern Ireland Lottery Fund.

'Active Places NI' will also allow agencies such as the Planning Service and facility developers to undertake their own tailored analysis of sports facilities provision 'on-line', thereby encouraging the strategic development of sports facilities in Northern Ireland.

Solution
ESBI Computing designed and developed a Web GIS solution for Sport Northern Ireland.  The web site allows users to access information on local sports facilities through a map or a comprehensive query interface. The project includes interfacing with an existing facilities database.

The solution was developed with .NET, MapInfo MapXtreme 2004 & SQL Server.
