It is estimated that 85% of most corporate databases have a spatial
component. Geocoding (adding an x, y co-ordinate to an address)
against a spatial database enables you to unlock the power of
this geographic component. ESBI Computing supplies our own powerful
address search, find and geocoding product - GeoLocator - in conjunction
with GeoDirectory, Ireland's only comprehensive national spatial
address database.
GeoLocator will allow you to realise the benefits of your investment
in GeoDirectory by integrating your corporate databases through
batch or interactive geocoding, giving you the power to control
and manage the process on an on-going basis, keeping your corporate
geocoding data up-to-date. GeoLocator eliminates the need to outsource
your geocoding requirements.

GeoLocator is a fast and intuitive application for finding and
matching addresses within GeoDirectory. GeoLocator incorporates
comprehensive geocoding (adding an x, y co-ordinate to an address)
and address finding / matching / verification functionality. Any organisation
that has or uses GeoDirectory will greatly benefit from GeoLocator
as a means to identify homes, businesses, potential customers
on a map. It will also help to clean-up and simplify data, and facilitate the sharing of address databases
throughout an organisation. GeoLocator has been optimised to work
with the GeoDirectory address database for Ireland, but can run
with other address databases if required.
Working seamlessly within MapInfo Professional, GeoLocator software
provides a very fast, intuitive and powerful way to access your
GeoDirectory data, helping you find an address on the map. With
its optional geocoder you can create precisely-positioned points
for a whole file of addresses. It imports these files into a relational
database that is shared by MapInfo Professional and GeoLocator
software
- Join up all your existing address files by tagging them with
the unique GeoDirectory key
- Find any address, even with abbreviations or spelling discrepancies,
and show it in MapInfo with an arrow
- Geocode your own data files, creating points in the appropriate
buildings
- Review geocoding results through an intuitive Search history
tree, and Result and Return codes
- Set the threshold score above which fuzzy (Soundex) matching
is accepted
- Choose between two formats for the Search box - compact or
expanded
- Interactive Search dialog which sorts possible address matches
hierarchically by town, street and address to provide very intuitive
refining of search results
- Browse the selected addresses and export them ready for mail
merging
- Easily import a set of addresses in CSV format through the
Importer Wizard
- Configuration options for incremental searching, search field
settings, and geocoding options
GeoLocator can geocode your dataset in Automatic mode or Interactive
mode. Clever options such as Soundex matching (accommodates spelling
variations in addresses) and Street name snippets (determines
whether part of an address is a street name) make the geocoding
process much faster.
Using the Automatic mode, addresses in your dataset will be
quickly matched and geocoded. Many Address fields can be selected
from your dataset to match with GeoDirectory addresses. GeoLocator
will then search the complete GeoDirectory data set and return
those records that most closely match the entry. These will be
assigned a percentage rating, to show how closely the entry matched
the GeoDirectory data.
Using the Interactive geocoding mode the user can find and fix
mistakes in addresses so that they can be geocoded correctly and
provide you with a 'clean' address dataset. The geocoding process
can be reviewed at any time using the Search History tree dialogue.
This allows users to see exactly 'how' each record was geocoded.
GeoLocator will then search the complete GeoDirectory data set
and return those records that most closely match the entry. These
will be assigned a percentage rating, to show how closely the
entry matched the GeoDirectory data. In Automatic mode the records
that score below the threshold will automatically be rejected
while the Interactive method will give the user the option to
accept or reject the match.
The "Find" function uses Soundex (fuzzy) matching to allow the
user to enter any mixture of upper and lower case, incomplete
entries, spelling mistakes and abbreviations. You can set thresholds
above which a fuzzy match is acceptable. Fuzzy matching can be
used in the geocode operations.
