ESBI Computing represented at GIS Ireland at Croke Park, Dublin
October 2004
October 13, 2004 at Croke Park, Dublin, Irlogi held their annual autumn conference and exhibition. Irlogi is Ireland's representative organisation of Geographic Information. It includes sponsors, corporate companies, individuals and student members who are all involved in a wide variety of GIS activities.
Karl McMahon, Senior GIS Consultant, spoke at the event on behalf of ESBI Computing. Karl was invited to give a paper on "The use of GIS in the Western River Basin District Project (WRBD)". The presentation gave an overview of the methodology utilised in the first pass of the characterisation report for Groundwater risk.
Groundwater risk is one component of the WRBD characterisation report due to be completed and submitted to EU on 22 December 2004. The Characterisation report is the second of six requirements set by the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The key objective of the Water Framework Directive is to maintain the existing 'high status' and to achieve at least 'good' statuses for all waters by 2015.
The Water Framework Directive recognises the importance of GIS to the success of this European wide project and ESBI Computing has been employed to deliver the GIS aspect of the WRBD.
Karl McMahon stated that: "It is great that the Water Framework Directive had the vision to implement an EU wide water management project and I am delighted to be involved and to be able to contribute towards this."
