ESBI Computing will be exhibiting and presenting a paper on "National Flood Hazard Mapping" at the upcoming GIS Ireland 2005 event. Aisling Horgan, Project Manager for the National Flood Hazard Mapping solution will present on ESBI & ESBI Computing developing a complete Flood Hazard Mapping GIS and database for The Office of Public Works (OPW). The project is divided into two major parts:
The first part is the delivery of a public Internet and Extranet GIS solution, which includes the ability to do the following:
- Comprehensive database searching and reporting
- Interaction with a comprehensive range of mapping through Web GIS
- Viewing of historic flood events and flood information as maps, photographs, press
cuttings and reports
- Data Management facilities
- Data download functionality for registered users via an Extranet.
The second major part is collection of all information on historical flood events in the country, which involves:
- Sourcing all flood related data across 58 public bodies
- Collection of flood protection asset information and existing predictive flood information
- Data digitisation, interpretation and verification
The total project will be delivered in 4 stages over 5 years, and involves complete support and maintenance of the system during this period. The project involves managing a diverse range of stakeholders and stakeholder interests.
GIS Ireland 2005 will take place in Croke Park Stadium in Dublin on the 18th of October 2005.
