Valuation Office benefit from updated GIS enabled workflow system
September 2004
ESBI Computing (ESBIC) has recently completed a desktop GIS integration project for the Valuation Office. The Valuation Office is responsible for the valuation of commercial property for public purposes. Its main business is the making of valuations for rating purposes and, in this; it acts at the instance of the local authorities. The office also advises Government departments regarding real property values. ESBI Computing integrated GIS seamlessly into the existing Valuation Office SQL database.
The existing Visual Basic 6 application allowed users to query the Valuation Office database of properties. ESBIC integrated GIS functionality into the application to allow users to view geographically accurate maps of these properties against a variety of OSI (Ordnance Survey Ireland) data. In addition users can print maps to scale at a variety of page sizes and to a variety of print templates. ESBIC developed the application using MapInfo's powerful desktop mapping engine MapX ™.
The GIS functionality within the workflow system is very easy and intuitive to use.
Project Leader, Jerry O' Sullivan stated that he was delighted with the outcome of the project as "This project demonstrated the experience of ESBI Computing in managing such a project. This project highlights the tangible benefits of seamlessly integrating GIS into existing corporate systems".
Mr Pat Goucher, Valuation Office said "Integrating GIS functionality into our SQL database was part of our ongoing strategic planning and we are very happy with the
way ESBI Computing has helped us achieve this."
